Rosneft selects CLEANWELL® DRY for its challenging projects

April 8, 2011: The development of Vankor giant oil field in Eastern Siberia, faces several challenges such as extremely low temperatures, remote location and horizontal drilling through unstable layers of clay. On the other hand exploration drilling in the off-shore of Sakhalin (Lebedinsky block) is confronted to the sensitive environment of the Okhotsk Sea.

To date, Rosneft has purchased in excess of 18 thousand tons of VAM TOP CLEANWELL® DRY from Sumitomo for Vankor project and recently expanded the application to Sakhalin off-shore.

7” VAM® TOP production casing was selected  due to its high performances to cope with these severe well conditions. Additionally, CLEANWELL® DRY is applied on VAM® TOP  connection while keeping its  thread geometry unchanged. The resulting rig-ready solution eliminates the use of dope, saves time by simplifying handling procedures both in the yard and on the rig floor, improves working conditions and preserves the environment.
In addition, specifically on Vankor Field, the  quicker running of VAM TOP CLEANWELL® DRY contributed to mitigate the detrimental impact of bore hole instability in clay formation.
To maximize these benefits, Sumitomo has developed with the end-user a tailor-made procedure from the mill to the well and is providing full time field service support and supervision.

Rosneft and Sumitomo mutually agree that this global approach on products and services through a close working relationship is fruitful and both companies will pursue future development opportunities.
