Casing and Tubing for General and Deep Well Service

CASING AND TUBING FOR GERNERAL AND DEEP WELL SERVICE

SM-G meant for gerneral and deep well service are remarkable for their high yield and tensile strengths while maintaining good ductility and fracture toughness.
SM-95G was developed as an intermediate grade between N-80 and P-110 to provide economical flexibility in designing casing strings.
SM-125G, SM-140G, and SM-150G offer additional tensile and yield strengths for deep well services.

Characteristics

1. Tensile Strength
The resistance to collapse and the longitudinal high strength requirements of well casing is becoming increasingly important with the drilling of deeper and deeper wells. SM-125G through SM-150G offer the high strength properties.

2. Mechanical Properties
Mechanical Properties of SM-G series are shown in above Table. SM-125G through SM-150G offer the required high strength properties.
3. Toughness
The Toughness of SM-G is equivalent to that of P110, Q125.

4. Micro Structure
Typical micro structures are shown in Photo. Each photo shows a well quenched and tempered microstructure.

Application of High Strength Grades for Deep Sour Gas & Oil Wells

As wells become deeper, high strength steels are needed for effective completion. Sumitomo can offer our high strength and high toughness steel for such completions, and have supplied plenty of SM-G Grades all over the world.
The smallest amount of H2S contamination should always be taken into consideration when looking at high strength material applications.
Fig shows the applicability of high strength steels for sour service integrating the following variables; H2S concentration, applied stress level and temperature.
Sulfide stress corrosion cracking susceptibility increases with material strength and grades such as SM150G should never be used if H2S is present.
